As summer fades across the tranquil southern Appalachian valley, let’s gear up for a serene paddle along the Upper French Broad, immersed in the vibrant hues of fall. Join this guided canoe trip, beginning with check-in at Headwaters Outfitters at 9:30 am. Following a brief shuttle to the launch, our expert guides provide paddling tips and delve into local history and wildlife tales as we glide downstream.

The Color of Fall Guided Canoe Trips fill quickly, limited to 10 participants, ensuring an intimate experience. Prior canoeing experience is beneficial but not required. Dress appropriately and consult our River Trip Tips for suggested gear.

  • Glide along the tranquil Upper French Broad, immersed in the vibrant hues of fall foliage, on our guided canoe or kayak trip, led by expert guides.
  • Experience the beauty of nature firsthand as you paddle downstream, encountering wildlife, soaking in scenic views, and enjoying a riverside picnic amidst the stunning autumn landscape.

  • Select a canoe (accommodating up to 2 adults/2 small children) or a solo/tandem kayak.
  • Provided with life jackets and paddles.
  • Enjoy shuttle service to and from the river.
  • Parking available.
  • Receive a river map.
  • Watch a river safety video, included in your confirmation email, before your trip.
  • Receive riverside orientation and instruction.
  • Personal attire: Dress according to weather conditions; consult our River Trip Tips.
  • Footwear: No flip-flops or shoes without heels; consider river shoes.
  • Bring drinks, snacks, and a picnic lunch. (Food Truck available on-site most days from April to October.)
  • Remember bug spray and sunscreen.
  • Gratuities: If our river staff offers excellent service, tipping your river host is appreciated.
