Remember when summer camp meant mud on your knees, stories and s’mores by the fire, and laughing until your stomach hurts with new best friends? Now imagine all that, but with gourmet food, no curfew, and no awkward bunk beds. Welcome to Great Smoky Mountains National Park Adult Summer Camp: a glammed-up adult sleepaway camp designed with relaxation in mind and created just for grownups who need a break from, well… adulting.

This all-inclusive 4-day 3-day getaway includes all the essentials for you to rediscover nature, try something unique your work besties will be jealous of, and make memories you won’t soon forget. Nestled in the heart of Smokies, this is great for those looking to escape the 9-5 routine. Enjoy activities like hiking, snorkeling, boating, and more all in just ~ 1 hour drive from Knoxville, Tennessee.

Why An Adult Summer Camp

No phones, no stress. This adult retreat is the perfect modern twist on a traditional sleepaway camp for adults 18 and up. Immerse yourself in some of the best hikes in the Smokies combined with nostalgic charm of camp activities.

The Accommodations

For 3 nights you’ll call Camp Atagahi home. Camp Atagahi was inspired by the legend of Atagâ’hï- a sacred, hidden healing lake in the Great Smoky Mountains. While it may not be the Ritz Carlton, your tent will have everything you need for restorative sleep and personal space. Enjoy clean and spacious glamping tents with fresh bedding. There is a shared bath house with spring fed showers and hot water. Connect with other travelers over great good, games, and crafts at a communal dining deck.

Gourmet Food

During this adult summer camp, your professional camp host will prepare a variety of gourmet locally sourced decisions meals and snacks in an off-grid commercial kitchen. Please make the camp host aware of any food restrictions or accommodations to make your experience more enjoyable.

What to Expect

Itinerary

After meeting and going through an orientation, we will hand off luggage to our camp manager and start our first hike. We´ll find a cozy spot on the trail for lunch. After we conclude our hike, we´ll head back to Camp Atagahi, check out camp and settle in. Games, dinner and a campfire will round out the night.

Day 2 begins with a delicious breakfast. Afterward, we will set out for our second hike to learn a bit more about the history of the area and diversity of the Park. In the evening we´ll head up high to a mountaintop bald for a picnic dinner, hiking out in just enough time to catch the sunset in a sea of mountains.

We begin with another hearty breakfast, then head out for our boat day! We´ll beat the summer heat swimming, playing and relaxing on a local lake with views of the Smokies. We´ll bring the party back to camp with games, smores around the campfire and a delicious dinner.

After we savor our last mountain breakfast of the trip, we´ll head to our final hike. Here, we´ll encounter plenty of water to play in and soak in our last moments of lush forest serenity.

Anyone 18+ is welcome! We see lots of folks from their mid 30's to their 60's. It's truly a camp for adults of all ages.

We may be a little biased, so we say 1000% yes! Especially this top-rated Smokies retreat. It's your chance to unplug and enjoy a relaxed schedule with no surprise add-on's.

Not at all! Our camp host and guides will do all of the heavy lifting. 

We recommend you to pack the following for this experience:

  • Hiking socks (non-cotton)

  • Select the number of people in your group that wish to have private lodging. 

Example 1:  There are 4 in your group, and 2 want private lodging

  • This means 2 people will pay collective $200 more ($100 per person) for private lodging and the remaining 2 quests will be charged the discounted rate for shared lodging.

You have the choice of private or shared glamping tents. Shared tents will include 2 people and private tents will be single occupancy. There is an additional fee of $100 per person for private accommodations as listed above. If you want a tent all to yourself, choose the private tent add-on upon booking. 

This is a shared experience and change to meet like-minded and potential life-long friends. 

The closest major airport to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS). Airlines like Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Avelo, Delta, Frontier, and United fly into TYS. 

How to Get to McGhee Tyson Airport 

From North (I-75) 
  • Travel southbound toward Knoxville on I-75
  • Follow I-275 south at the I-640 interchange 
  • After continuing 2.5 miles, take I-40 west to the 386B exit toward Alcoa Highway/ US-129
  • Follow US-129 for about 12 miles. TYS will be on your right. 

Car Rentals & Ride Share

Rental cars are available at McGhee Tyson Airport and are located on the lower level near baggage claim. Rental car options include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Dollar, and Payless Car Rental. Uber and Lyft pick-up is on the lower level. 

Accommodations Near McGhee Tyson Airport

There are various hotels at the airport and a short drive away. There are 12 hotels the airport offers hotel shuttles for. Shuttle pick-up is at the north side of the terminal near baggage claim. A full list of hotel shuttles can be found here.
